What do you get when u mix Dibakar Banerjee (Oye Lucky Lucky Oye & Khosla Ka Ghosla), a bunch of not so well known but really good actors and a steady cam? Add to these 3 parallel yet intertwined story lines – A couple who get married against the wishes of their parents, a childish bet oriented around lust and a classic case of the Casting Couch.
Ladies and Gentlemen – Welcome to LOVE SEX AUR DHOKHA
For the first few minutes one is left wondering as to what is happening? The titling is simply superb!!! Not only because it has never been done before this way but also because it has been executed brilliantly.
If I were to describe LSD in one word - BRAVE.
Brave because it gets out the gruesome nature of a hugely sensitive yet relevant topic of honour killing for the first time in Indian Cinema and that too in a manner that is as close to reality as possible. Brave because it gets you up close and personal to the casting couch like never before. Brave because it dares to go beyond conventional thinking and casts actors who have never been seen before on the screen. Brave because it uses first time music directors to get out a very good sound track – one will hear the title track for a while to come now. Brave because DB chooses not to edit out a lot of aspects which would not have gone down too well with the censor board. Brave because it does all of the above with a steady cam!!!!!
The average movie watcher, however (and sadly so), would slowly but surely succumb to an inability to relate to what I believe was DB’s pet project. Surely, he needed to have 2 very successful movies under his belt to get someone to invest in his bold venture – LSD
In a nutshell – LSD is not meant for the masses. It is definitely not for the faint hearted. Watch it with an open mind and u have in your hands an 7 on 10 movie!!!
