When you look up
10ml Love on the net, it shows you a year of release as 2010. But to my knowledge, the movie wasn’t actually
released till as late as December 2012.
I remember having missed it in one of my 7 movie weekends (where I have
a weak track record) and actually looking for it quite hard.
The usual star cast associated with off-beat but good movies such as Bheja Fry had got me quite interested in the movie. So when I stumbled across it once again on Tata Sky, the thought that crossed my mind was – better late than never. So on one of those messed up Sunday afternoons (I am still shifting), P and I settled down to watch 10ml love along with some messy shifting and unpacking.

And the fact
that we were working along with the movie has nothing to do with our assessment
of the movie – a very resounding below par.
First of all, the movie has nothing new to offer. It is a straightforward copy of that Sandra
Bullock movie from over 2 decades back – Love Potion No. 9. OK to be very honest – not an absolute copy
that we are familiar with but a copy nevertheless.
Neel Bhatia (Purab
Kohli) is friends with benefits with Minnie Mehta (Koel Purie). But Neel likes Shweta Rai (Tara Sharma),
their childhood friend and is about to get married to her. That minor detail being kept aside, the 2 of
them – Neel and Minnie – are happily getting into each other’s pants. But Minnie is not the happiest about the
wedding. She has, over the years, fallen
for Neel but hasn’t told him yet.
Shweta on the
other hand, is also quite against the wedding.
But unlike Neel, she isn’t humping around with the loser car mechanic Peter
Periera (Neel Bhooplam). She has in fact
given up on him and has resigned to fate.
Simultaneously, there is a 3rd storyline which is the origin
of the title of the movie.
The suspicious
lover Ghalib (Rajat Kapoor) and his wife Roshni (Tisca Chopra). Ghalib and
Roshni have a fight and to solve the same, Ghalib’s mother gives him a potion
of 10 ml Love. The potion has to be
given to the person who you love. But
after drinking the potion, you should be the first person that s/he sees.
Ghalib manages
to do the first part right. But before
the 2nd part can happen, fate intervenes or should I say The Delhi Electricity
Board intervenes. In the ensuing
confusion, one from each pair of lovers has the potion and absolute chaos
ensues. So to that extent 10ml Love is
different from Love Potion No. 9.
I can tell you
that the track from the Sandra Bullock movie is far more entertaining http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7rXhXLsNJL8. The original, I assure you that it will be
more enjoyable is available on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WHkcYCRjr2Y.
Expected better. 4 on 10.
