This was my
write up about The Attacks of 26/11 http://kartikr.blogspot.in/2013/03/the-attacks-of-2611.html. Notice the part where I state, “But of late,
RGV's intense movies are restricted to those to study the History of Cinema.
With little or no production value”. Unfortunately
with Satya 2, RGV breaks new ground. He
gives you a masterpiece that will be used in film schools for a long time to
come.
Erm. In case you got your hopes too high with that
introduction, I meant it in a sarcastic way.
Satya 2 joins the realm of cinema such as Joker and Milenge Milenge for
what a feature film SHOULD NOT BE. Satya
2 caps of what has been a stunning fall from grace of someone who at one point
in time was rated as the best that ever happened to Indian cinema.
Except for the
intent and the broad structure of a story – that is an interesting take on what
and how the underworld should actually operate as – RGV and his team gets
everything wrong. Satya 2 is the story
of – no points for guessing – a guy called Satya (Punit Singh Ratn) and his
rise to being the undisputed king of the Mumbai underworld. What makes it even
more dreary is the voice of Makarand Deshpande narrating the story.
Satya 2 narrates
the mysterious story of a person whose only past happens to be covered in 5
minutes – a love story with Chitra (Anaika Soti). He leaves quite abruptly – probably because
Chitra gave him some gas about how poetry is meant to be felt and not
understood – eh? He runs off Mumbai with an intent of developing a deep understanding
of its “Bhookh, Jalan, Laalach and Nafrat (Hunger, Jealousy, Greed and Hate)”.
By this time,
Satya 2 had pretty much lost me and could it provided some sparks of brilliance
(notice the sarcasm again) through dialogues like “Confidence aur over
confidence ke beech mein dhaage bhar ka farak hota hai” – What? Where did a
dhaaga (thread) come into play? If not that then, “Palkon pe baithne waalon ko
sar pe baithne ke liye time nahin lagta” – erm? Call dialogue writer and hang
him. NOW!!!!
If this doesn’t get
to you, then wait till Special (Aradhna Gupta) makes her appearance in hot
pants and a cut off vest in a Mumbai chawl.
What was she wanting to play – struggling actress or cheap modern whore?
And she says, “Mein Special hoon. Mera
naam Special kyun hai iske peechhe ek bahut badi, chhoti si kahaani hai”. It was at this point that I was searching for
a rope in the hall so that I could hang myself.
People claimed
that RGV had lost it with Aag (his remake of Sholay that I haven’t seen
yet). Any doubts can be put to rest with
Satya 2. The concept of the movie is really
not bad. A different take on how the
underworld should actually be.
Unfortunately, after the concept stage, everything goes downhill with no
brakes.
Anaika Soni can
all but kiss her dreams of Bollywood goodbye.
All she does is display her permanent pout and repeat a belly dance step
that she may have recently learnt in a song.
And of course getting wet either in the rain or in Kashmir. I am not
quite certain as to what Aradhna Gupta was trying to do wearing stockings while
practicing ballet. Ballet???? And what about Punit Singh Ratn? Never mind.
In short, Satya
2 joins the list of most avoidable movies for the year. There is no production value whatsoever. The direction is absent. The entire movie should have been edited – so
0 there. I give it 1 on 10 for 2 things –
a good concept that was unfortunately executed in a manner that was worst
possible. And the only line that made some
sense over 2.5 hours, “Darr sabse zyada uss se lagta hai jo dikhta nahin hai”
(One fears most what one cannot see).
Don’t even
bother watching the trailer on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ycl6CkZYms0
He leaves quite abruptly – probably because Chitra gave his some gas about how poetry is meant to be felt and not understood. wot does this mean ? Ha ha ha
