Sooper Se Ooper

To Vir Das I would like to say this – Having been a stand-up comedian for the time that you have been, one would have guessed that you would understand the fine line between a really bad script and an acceptable comedy.  Why then would you justify your choice of actually doing a movie that was as bad a script that it could have been.

To Gulshan Grover I would like to say this – I am happy that you finally landed up with a role that is commensurate with your age.  But I hope you realize that you are have become a better actor with age.  Why then would you put yourself through the embarrassment of playing Madho Singh Rathore? Just stating that you are from Oxford (in the movie) doesn’t ensure that people are convinced.

To Kirti Kulhari I would like to say this – You are one of the more beautiful women in Bollywood these days.  With Shatian you showed most people that there is more that meets the eye than a bimbo.  Why oh why would you ruin your chances by making wrong choices.  First Rise of the Zombie and now this? Wasn’t the name of the movie sufficient to turn you away?  Sooper Se Ooper? Sounds like a South Indian movie gone wrong.

To Deepak Dobriyal & Yashpal Sharma I would like to say this – you have done yourself and the entire fraternity of Theatre / Method / NSD actors an severe disservice.  I am quite certain that times are tough but they cannot be that tough for you to compromise.  Thankfully for you, there is a track record and people may ignore this gaffe.  But what sort of an example are you setting?

To first time director and writer Shekhar Ghosh I would like to say this – Even a simple story like the one you had could have been better if you had not resorted to cheap, slapstick techniques.  Pay some more attention to glaring errors.  To point one glaring error it would be the 7000 point drop in the stock market in a few hours? Erm? Circuit Breakers? Do they exist in your world?

Sooper Se Ooper is yet another classic example of how Bollywood attempts to get away with what they claim to be cinema. An absolute waste of time and money from frame 1.  Uninspiring dialogues, meek attempts at comedy and a sheet waste of some of the most talented actors in the business today.

My only explanation for the cast having agreed to be a part of this movie would be some deep financial crisis compensated with a packet that was twice what they normally would have earned.  Don’t bother watching it even if it were coming on TV or someone pays you to do so.  1 on 10 yet again.  Sigh.  When will the situation improve?
