I Me Aur Main

Kapil Sharma is a first time director who picks up a topic that is actually quite bold for this part of the world.  That he, like most others in this country, makes a hash out of it comes as no surprise.  I was expecting a crappy movie right from the beginning and hence was probably saved from the disapointment.

To all the boys reading this blog – lets for a moment assume that you are God’s gift to womankind.  That you have a body that can put most men to shame.  That you are what every man aspires to be – a chick magnet.  That you work in the music industry and are one of the leading producers.  Now wake up.  Because Ishaan Sabharwal (John Abraham) is who we are talking about and not you.

But to your credit, you may not have had the kind of upbringing that Ishaan had in the city of Pune.  Where his mother (Zarina Wahab) has pampered him to no end. Even at the expense of his own sister.  The result is a grown man who gets his kicks out of looking at himself in the mirror in the pose of a boxer and saying, “Who is the best? Who is the best? Ishaan is the best).  Hilarious!!!

Well, turns out that Ishaan is Anushka’s (Chitrangadha Singh) boyfriend and is pretty much living off her.  But the relationship goes only one way.  One fine day, Ishaan gets dumped and finds himself living opposite Ms. Dandekar (Prachi Desai) who is your atypical girl next door.  And before you can say Jack Daniels, they are all but in a relationship.  Whats the twist? Anushka is pregnant.  Ooops.  Now what?

As I said, a story that is quite fresh and bold for this part of the world.  Although the movie was badly made, there is another point for which the director and writer deserve credit.  It is with the ending.  One that is realistic, believable and also the right thing to have been done.  Not something that the popular vote will go through.  Therefore full points to Kapil Sharma there.

However, a plethora of consistency errors and crappy performances leave what could have been a great movie pretty much in tatters.  John Abraham is at his best when he doesn’t have a shirt on because that distracts you from his dialogues.  Unfortunately that happens only once for 2 seconds.  Chitrangadha should genuinely give thought to taking a break and repairing her relationship with Jyoti Randhawa.  Will help for sure.

2 people, however were quite good.  Prachi Desai who not only gives the girl next door look but also dispels all her detractors who said she cannot look sizzling hot.  And the other person who did well was Mini Mathur.  Is it her first movie? Because the credits called out – Introducing.  Not sure.

The music has a couple of high points which is good.  Most importantly, full marks to Kapil Sharma once again to have kept this movie to around 90 minutes.  Well done sir!!! However, do let me know which Hollywood movie this script has been taken from because my memory fails me.  I would be pleasantly surprised if this one turns out to be an original.  4 on 10.  Watch on DVD or TV
