Commando A One Man Army

Vidyut Jammwal’s Bollywood debut, about a couple of years back was in a negative role in an average movie called Force.  But most people thought that his performance was the one that stood out in the movie and probably made it worth watching.  That it took him nearly 2 more years for his next movie was rather surprising.

Once again, Jammwal is the saving grace in an otherwise really average movie.  The movie does start with a declaration (not disclaimer – because it seems a bit cocky) that all the stunts are performed by Vidyut himself without any effects except the shot where he is thrown off a cliff into the river.  Extremely impressive I must say.

And you will be saying the same once you have seen this movie.  Captain Karanvir Dogra (Vidyut Jammwal) – as is very obvious – is a commando in the Indian army.  He is a para commando.  We are informed (by his commanding officer through a super emotional dialogue) that these are the toughest variety.

Karan’s chopper crashes into Chinese territory and he is put through extreme torture that is somewhat inspired from what Le Chiffre does to Bond in Casino Royale.  After a year in captivity he is being sent for execution in an open jeep with 3 fat Chinese army men who he disables with consummate ease and makes his way back home.

Around the same time, Simrit (Pooja Chopra) and her parents are being put through a lot of pain by the local goon – AK (Jaideep Ahlawat) – who wants to marry her.  AK is quite scary to say the least with eyes that don’t have pupils (they are eerie white).  Obviously Simrit doesn’t want anything to do with it.

Unfortunately, her decision to run away backfires.  She gets caught at the bus stand by AK’s goons.  Fortunately, Karan has also made his way to the same bus stand that happens to be on the border town of Dilerkot.  The carnage that begins at the bus stand continues for the next ninety minutes without any respite.

Guys who are going with their girlfriends or wives need to be forewarned.  Jammwal’s 8 packs will definitely give you a complex and your companions will be drooling all over.  So I suggest strongly that you watch this movie with a gang of boys.  There is nothing much other than that and the stunts that you can look forward to.

The dialogues are crappy as hell.  There is little or no use of screenplay or for that matter direction.  Sometime down the movie, you begin to think that the movie has probably been directed by Jammwal himself and that Dilip Ghosh is his pseudonym.  Pooja Chopra should have been eliminated completely because she singlehandedly ruins the movie.

Overall, Commando is a good solid action movie that can be enjoyed if you are not going to use your brains.  Probably the best action movie that has been released in Bollywood for quite a while. Definitley watchable.  5 on 10.
