Shane Black has one major movie to his credit prior to Iron Man 3. It is a Brad Pitt starrer called Kiss Kiss Bang Bang that was a very slick, contemporary, gangster movie. Iron Man would have been a significant departure in terms of genre, but boy was Shane Black upto the task.
The screenplay
is written by Black and Drew Pearce is distinctly funnier that the previous two
movies with some really smart one liners and conversations that will keep you
truly entertained. If you aren’t too
happy with that, then the action sequences will definitely keep you on the edge
of your seats.
This time
around, the story begins in the previous millennium at a conference in Bern,
Switzerland. Those were the feral days of Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) and he
gets the new millennium in with Maya Hansen (Rebecca Hall), an up and coming
botanist. He also happens to bump into
Aldrich Killian (Guy Pearce), another intense scientist.
Thirteen years
since that night and it is Christmas time in 2012. Now the world has to face another
problem. The Mandarin (Ben Kingsley) is
the latest mad terrorist to hit mother earth.
And his target is to give the Americans an opportunity to complete their
“education”. Standing in his way are
Iron Man and the new and improved Iron Patriot.
Robert Downey
Jr.s is very edgy and anxiety driven in his portrayal of Iron Man. But what impresses you most is the stellar
act from one Krishna Pandit Bhanji aka Ben Kingsley who is completely out of
this world. Even small acts like those
from the kid Ty Simpkins keep are very convincing.
No effort spared
on the effects either with some really good work on the 3D. If it felt good at a regular 3D screen in PVR
then it will definitely feel much better in the IMAX format that so many people
are raving about. In all, a must watch
for this weekend for all you people. Don’t
miss this one. 8 on 10.
