Enemmy (Law and Disorder)

A gangster's truck load of cash is intercepted by just 2 people in black masks.  So you have one peeved gangster– Mukhtar (Zakir Hussain). His crony and associated family bite the dust. He launches a full scale offensive on all gangs. The cops led by Ekalvya Karmarkar (Suniel Shetty) have to intervene and lock him up. Ekalavya has Eric Colaco (Johnny Lever), Madhav Sinha (Mahaakshay) and Naeem Shaikh (Kay Kay Menon) by his side.

Enter Yugandhar Bishnoi (Mithun Chakraborthy) a seasoned CBI officer who is the Indian avatar of CSI, FBI and CIA put together. One look at the scene and he knows everything that's happened. And to add to the suspense, the chief minister wants Yugandhar to report every little detail to him as often as possible. A normal person would smell a fish. But appropriately an item number comes in to distract you - but weren't dance bars banned in Bombay?

Enemmy is the story of the rot of corruption that has set itself into our entire system.  Yawn.  It has gone from just petty cash exchanging hands to billions that find their way from the hands of tax payers to places where you cannot imagine.  Yawn. Yawn.  The people who are most involved are the politicians who are hand in glove with gangsters and the police is a mute spectator. Yawn. Yawn. Yawn.

Ashu Trikha tries his best to prop up a stale story written by himself through some ridiculous poetry from Yugandhar Bishnoi.  The dialogues are also seemingly lifeless and without any reason or meaning.  For e.g. Agar Sab dulha banke ghodi pe baith jayenge toh band kaun bajaayega (If everyone decides to be a groom then who will play the band).  Erm. Whats the point Shri Trikha?

Trikha finds some help from the cast though.  Suniel Shetty can only be this good.  Mithun Da is well past his prime but still manages to hold fort reasonably well along with Kay Kay Menon.  I haven’t seen Johnny Lever in a serious role to date but it was a welcome change and he does quite well.  Zakir Hussain as always is solid.  But nothing much can be done with the stone faced Mahaakshay who makes up for Johnny Lever in his serious avatar.  All you can do is laugh at him.

After being tortured with Shortcut Romeo, Enemmy was very welcome.  I expected it to be a horror show but it turned out to be tolerable.  But that doesn’t mean I will give it anything more than 4 on 10.  It was still a pedestrian effort.  For you quiz buffs, please stay till the end of the movie (if you can sustain it) to find out why the movie is called Enemmy.  Will be part of trivia quizzes for a while to come.
