Babloo Happy Hai

The description of Babloo Happy Hai online is as under
Babloo Happy Hai is a Hindi film directed by Nila Madhab Panda. It is a love story of today's youngsters, and what they think love and sex is in the times of multiplexes and fast cars. Before the film's name was "love is not mathematics"
Let me assure you that there was no mathematics involved anywhere.  There was some sex and some love thrown in but the word “directed” had very little presence.

15 things that you learn from Babloo Happy Hai
  1. Pahaadon pe door door tak petrol pump nahin milte
  2. In the middle of the nite, if u run out of fuel on a desolated hill road, a great looking girl will definitely stop and help you - I'm not talking about a ghost
  3. In the freezing hills of Manali you will find 3 girls who are labelled as Banjarans performing item numbers in skimpy clothes because it is tradition
  4. The traditional Banjaran dance takes its inspiration from Bollywood Belly Dances
  5. The opening line for most girls from Delhi with someone they have met for the first time is usually, "so you are harry? What do you like"? Eh????
  6. Pitam Pura parties are very jhhalla (cannot be translated into english)
  7. Sex ij a prayer honey. Not a crime. Celebrate it.
  8. Even in the worst of snow storms, mobile telephone networks work like magic.
  9. If you need space, u should go to NASA
  10. NGOs don't have any free lunch. Erm... What about life in general?
  11. Har bevda... bevdi (alcoholic) daaru peeke sach bolti hai (says the truth after getting drunk)
  12. If you go to an NGO to volunteer for a period of time, u will always carry a few extra evening gowns and party footwear... Just in case the ngo owner decides to throw an impromptu party.
  13. If you are @ that party with your girlfriend you should expect your girlfriend to be perfectly fine if you do a sensuous salsa number with another girl who is far hotter than your girlfriend.
  14. Salsa is the best dance form. Even if you have only seen it on TV a few  of times, u can dance like a pro within a few seconds of your first attempt
  15. A Mini Cooper stuck in snow for 2-3 days starts off without any effort. No battery drain. No jump start required. Absolutely brilliant.

A quick look at the story. Jatin (Sahil Anand) aka Gugu is engaged to Tamanna Singh (Preet Kamal) who dreams of a perfect wedding. Gugu has 2 best friends - Harry (Sumit Suri) & Rohan (Amol Parashar). Tamanna is a control freak and H&R. At the bachelor's party for Gugu, Natasha (Erica Fernandes) and Gugu have a “one-nighter”. That is quickly followed by a road trip to Ladakh. What starts off as a poor man's Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (ZNMD) turns slowly into a movie that has a social message as well.

There are good parts. The open and genuine treatment given to the gay relationship of Rohan is really good. The HIV awareness drive plus use of condoms etc. for the villagers as well as the youth has been done very well. One dialogue sticks out, "Saath mein uthne baithne se, khane peene se, gale lagne se, HIV nahin failti. Pyaar failta hai" (by socialising with people, eating with them or hugging them, you don't spread HIV. You can only spread love).

BHH has some good performances from the like of Sahil Anand who seems quite controlled.  Sahil has always been the best man and never the groom and he uses his opportunity well.  Ditto for Sumit Suri and Amol Parashar.  The latter stands out.  The women, however seem very uncomfortable on screen.  Erica Fernandes shows some signs of confidence but fleetingly. The music isn’t memorable either.

Despite the low point when Natasha says, "Kaun kambakht bardaash karne ke liye daaru peeta hai???" and all the other points, that I have called out earlier, Babloo Happy Hai is a sincere movie with a message that is not common place these days. The obvious errors could have been avoided and it could have easily been rated @ 6 on 10. But the gaffes galore leave it at 4 on 10. Watch if and when you have nothing better to do and on TV.
