Zid

With a name like Barbie Handa, a career in cinema would have been restricted to a side actress who would not find mention in even the credits (I really don’t mean to be nasty).  But unfortunately for Barbie, a change of name of Mannara and her immense contacts in the industry (Barbie is the 3rd cousin of Piggy Chops) will do little for her fortunes.

Barbie aka Mannara is unfortunately under the impression that all it takes is to pout her lips, give a slutty smile and of course show lots of cleavage to begin with.  Mannara has made enough effort through Zid to leave little to the audience’s imagination.  Not that Zid is pornographic in nature but I assure you that it is almost there.

Ronnie (Karanvir Sharma) is a reporter for an innovatively named newspaper called The Daily.  It is based out of Goa.  Our hero has recently been ditched in love by someone called Priya (Shraddha Das).  His boss Karan (Mohan Kapoor) has a simple formula for recovery – get laid.

In his attempt to get laid, our hero also changes residence to a place that is genuinely “saat samundar paar” (across the seven seas) – or so it seems.  How a crime reporter intends to get to work soon in an emergency is not relevant at all.  Maybe it doesn’t matter in Goa.

Apparently the move to a desolate location will also back up Karan’s advise.  Apparently the invalid landlord has a nurse daughter who is right out of “Doctor Adventures”.  Ronnie finds the eerie nurse – Maya (Mannara) who doesn’t creep him out at all.  Instead he takes her on a date.  So what if she has a pet alligator.

Maya, of course, has no experience in these matters and confides in her sister in Delhi about her “first love”.  But tragedy is about to strike en route back to desolate villa across the seven seas.  Ronnie crashes into a girl on a two wheeler that shows her body being thrown over the SUV but surprisingly the body is found 30 feet away along with the two wheeler that was supposed to be right under the SUV.  How? Never mind!!!

Vivek Agnihotri is known to give cinema that doesn’t follow any continuity or common sense.  The reason – we will always have a Mannara willing to do the needful to distract the audience.  What Shri Agnihotri has learnt that sometimes one is not enough.  We therefore have a southern siren in the form of Shraddha Das.

I watched Zid out of an occupational stubbornness that was never more ill placed.  Everything screamed out that I shouldn’t.  Here is one movie that you should not watch even if you were part of a focus group discussion where you are being paid for it.  2 on 10 thanks to a couple of good numbers that people may like.
