Grown Ups 2

This was my review for Grown Ups that released over 3 years back, almost to the date
http://kartikr.blogspot.in/2010/08/grown-ups.html.  My review for Grown Ups 2 is going to have very little different to offer because it is yet again – an Adam Sandler – Denis Dugan combination that gives you nothing different from any of their previous attempts.

At the end of Grown Ups, Lenny Feder (Sandeler) has come back to his hometown and settled there.  He has a happy life with his wife and 3 kids. I am sure you know what happiness is defined as? For the uninitiated, it is bumping into Roxanne Chase-Feder (Salma Hayek)…. Slowly.  And Feder does that almost every day (face gone green).

Grown Ups 2 proceeds to randomly rant about other uninteresting parts in our heroes lives.  The movie is so uninteresting that I didn’t have anything to write down in my usually copious notes.  I closed my note on the BB without a single word about 30 minutes into the movie.

There are some angles such as Marcus’ (David Spade) teenage dope pusher murderer looking illegitimate son who makes an appearance out of the blue. There are the town cops Officer Fluzoo (Shaq O’Neal) and his partner, who seem as unnecessary as refrigerator is to an Eskimo.

There are of course the University seniors who have taken over the lake where our heroes grew up and get our heroes to jump into it buck naked.  There is Kevin James performing his “burpsnart” (Burp Sneez and Fart at the same time) at the drop of a hat.  And if that wasn’t enough, there is the rest of the cast “burpsnarting” all the way through.

Like any Adam Sandler movie there is vomit available on demand – thankfully with reason this time around. Having said that, I am not sure where the humour comes in with vomit? Of course there are enough and more sleazy references to women and their assets and half naked women prancing around as well.

I am sure that Adam Sandler, Denis Dugan and therefore Happy Madison know that this kind of escapist cinema is assured of success across the globe thanks to the tons of buyers out there. This time around there is no message worth taking back either.  Just random slapstick stuff stitched together.

Thankfully, the mess lasts for only around 90 minutes.  One thing is for certain that this time around, the audience was less than impressed.  Whether it is because the same stuff is available locally or because they are bored of Sandlerisms, I am not aware.  But the same concept will not work any more.  Hope to see something better next time.  4 on 10.
